          Dare to Care

The Dare to Care School Lunch Program raises funds to anonymously feed children-in-need in our schools by providing school lunch so that they can focus on learning instead of hunger pains.  The program was started by Lena, a first grade student who wanted to help a hungry friend.  When Lena and her mom approached the school to see how they could help this friend, they learned there were many children who, for different reasons, go to school hungry every day.  These children fall through the cracks and do not receive benefit of the federal meal program.  That year Lena raised money from friends and family to feed 25 students at her school.  The following year Dare to Care was formed and currently benefits thousands of Alaskan students every day.

With the help of our wonderful sponsors and volunteers, AHJA was able to present a check for $4,000 to Dare to Care, surpassing our goal of adopting a school through their program for a whole year!  This would not have been possible without your help.

Thank you!
