The Alaska Hunter Jumper Association, Inc. (AHJA) is a §501(c)(3) non-profit organization run completely by volunteer members. Each year, AHJA puts on one horse show to benefit a different non-profit organization. In the past, we have supported St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Covenant House Alaska, and the Stone Soup Group. Over the past two years, we have been able to raise in excess of $5,000.00 for each of the organizations which we have sponsored. We hope to do at least as well again this year.

We have selected Abused Women's Aid in Crisis, Inc., or AWAIC, as the beneficiary of our 2009 show. This worthy non-profit organization is based in Anchorage. As the largest domestic service provider in Alaska, AWAIC offers many needed services for women in danger. AWAIC maintains a 52-bed shelter in Anchorage for women and their children who are made homeless by domestic violence. The shelter fills and urgent need. This year, it has been filled well over capacity several times, some nights by as many as three dozen women and children.
AWAIC also provides case managers to assist the women staying at its shelter. Transitional housing and other services are offered to help women after they leave the shelter. AWAIC has support programs for children and youths who have lived with domestic violence. And AWAIC staffs a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline for women dealing with violence in the home. You can find out more about AWAIC at www.awaic.org.
